Synopsis: An eagle soaring among the clouds, a star twinkling in the night sky, a camel in the desert, or a boat sailing across the sea . . . Yoga has the power of transformation. Not only does it strengthen bodies and calm minds, but with a little imagination, it can show us that anything is possible. New York Times bestselling illustrator Peter H. Reynolds teams up with author and certified Yoga instructor Susan Verde in this book about creativity and the power of self-expression. I Am Yoga encourages children to explore the world of Yoga and make room in their hearts for the world beyond it.

My thoughts…

This is a refreshing how-to manual for kids and families to practice calmness, awareness, and higher consciousness together. The illustrations are easy to follow and word choice of the text explains the poses considerably well. This book is a welcome addition to a world that is so fast paced that oftentimes we are too busy to experience mindfulness. I can see this book being a great resource for families that incorporate mindfulness and spiritual well being (just to name a few) into their family lifestyle.

Reynolds’ illustrations are quite beautifully drawn and offer a clear representation of the yoga poses. The illustrations pair well with Verde’s text. They really have an artistic rhythm that is echoed in their literary projects together. I love the size of the book. It’s easy for little hands to carry and compact enough to travel with you very easily. Let me say that I am eager to continue reading the “I Am” series.
